Practical strategy and operations help for businesses ready to grow.
Most companies hit a point where growth stops coming as easily as it used to. Leaders know their businesses need to get more efficient and data-driven, but they just don't have the know-how and/or bandwidth to make it happen. I bring the strategic and operational expertise to help figure out what's holding the business back, and build the solutions that get it growing again.
Where I help
Services
Help with the problems you're already dealing with
Most work starts with a problem you're already living with. Here's where I can help. If even just one of these sounds like your business, we can get started.
Commercial Operations
Winning new business feels like an uphill battle, and you can't always say where the next customer is coming from.
How do you make sales steady and repeatable instead of feast-or-famine?
- Planning how you find and win customers
- A clear, repeatable sales process
- Getting customer info organized in one place
- Following up on leads so none slip away
Process, Systems & AI
Your team is working hard, but too much gets done by hand and things slip through the cracks.
How do you get your tools, and the right use of AI, to carry more of the load?
- Automating repetitive, manual work
- Putting AI to work where it makes sense
- Getting your tools to talk to each other
- Writing down how things should get done
Data Strategy & Structure
Your information is spread across different spreadsheets, and you don't fully trust the numbers.
How do you get it organized and reliable so that you can make decisions?
- Getting your data into one trustworthy place
- Cleaning up messy or duplicate records
- Deciding what's worth tracking
- Making the numbers something you can trust
Business Intelligence
You're making big decisions on gut feel because you can't get a clear, up-to-date picture of how things are going.
How do you get numbers that tell you what's working and what isn't?
- Simple dashboards you'll actually use
- Reports that answer your real questions
- Clear measures of what's working
- One agreed set of numbers for the whole team
Team & Organization
The business has grown, but who-does-what hasn't kept up, so people are stretched thin or tripping over each other.
Do you have the right people in the right roles to grow?
- Sorting out who owns what
- Getting new hires productive faster
- A simpler, repeatable way to hire
Strategic Partnerships & Procurement
You're spending on vendors, tools, and contracts that may not be returning on your investment.
How do you get more from them and spend less doing it?
- Negotiating better deals and contracts
- Cutting or combining vendors you don't need
- Building partnerships that pay off
- Making sure you get what you pay for
Approach
A phased approach, built for ease
Engagements move through three phases, so you get a clear plan, hands-on execution, and improvements that last after I'm gone.
Assessment
I seek to understand the operational challenges and how they connect across the business. Then I work with you to create a prioritized roadmap of the highest-impact moves to make first.
Implementation
I get hands-on and build, using our prioritized roadmap as a guide. During the build, the focus is on measurable outcomes (more efficiency, lower cost, more capacity), and we work collaboratively to optimize our plans as early results drive opportunities.
Integration
I measure against the goals we set, refine what's working, roll out the solutions to the company, and transfer the knowledge to your team so the gains hold long after the engagement ends.
Why dhpConsulting
Strategy and hands-on execution, not just recommendations
Perspective
Moving quickly between the forest and the trees means seeing how the operational pieces connect, knowing how they should work together, and knowing how to build those connections. Strategic insight plus hands-on execution delivers solutions that work, not just recommendations.
Partnership
The work is consultative and collaborative. I build solutions with your teams and tools rather than replacing them, so you get executive-level operational expertise and bandwidth without a premature full-time commitment, and your internal capabilities get stronger while the immediate need gets handled.
Custom Solutions
Every business is different, so solutions get built for your specific context, constraints, and opportunities. They are not copied from theoretical best practices or what worked for someone else's company. The goal is making your business work best for your business.
About
About Dave Prenske
For nearly 20 years I've built and scaled the operations behind growing companies, across very different businesses. An ecommerce company. A media publisher selling its own ad inventory. A cable TV distributor. An independent measurement firm sitting between buyers and sellers.
That range taught me the lesson dhpConsulting is built on: the fundamentals of how a business runs are the same from one to the next. The products and language can differ greatly, but how a company turns effort into revenue, makes good decisions, and gets everyone pulling the same way is remarkably consistent. The 'operating system' that helps one company hit its next stage of growth usually helps the next, whatever it sells.
I started dhpConsulting in 2023 to bring that experience to companies that need senior operational help to reach the next level but aren't ready for a full-time executive hire. I find what's holding the business back and build the fixes that get it growing again, with an eye on the bottom line, not just top-line revenue.
A few highlights from the journey that got me here:
- Founded the Business Operations function at measurement firm 605 (later acquired by iSpot.tv), built its infrastructure from scratch, and helped fuel 700% revenue growth over five years.
- Grew addressable ad revenue 54% and cut costs 30% at Cablevision, New York's largest cable operator, through new products, renegotiated partnerships, and automation.
- Led ecommerce and data strategy for major media brands including MTV, Comedy Central, and Nickelodeon.
BA in Economics and MBA in Management & Strategy, both from NYU Stern.
